Chong Khnies – St. Paul Parish

Decommissioned

St. Paul’s Church of Chong Khnies was founded in 2002 by Fr. Heri Bratasudarma, Sj and his team. This floating village is 10km south of Siem Reap, a favorite tourist area to get a boat tour of the mighty tonle Sap Lake and see life of people in floating houses.  The church community here consisted mainly of Vietnamese Catholics born in Cambodia. Their main means of livelihood was fishing. However, in DECEMBER 2018, because of demographic and area-policy changes, all Catholics dispersed to various places.  With permission from Ministry of Cults and from our Bishop, all social and religious activities were ended.  The boat church was decommissioned and moved to Prek Toal where it is now used as a learning center for children.  Prek Toal is another area where we have the Floating Church.
