St. Paul’s Church (Chong Khnies)

St. Paul’s Church of Chong Khnies, a floating village 10km south of Siem Reap, consists mainly of Vietnamese Catholics born in Cambodia and whose main occupation is fishing. From the year 2000 to 2015, this floating church was a big, thriving community.  During masses and celebration of the sacraments, the church was always filled with Catholic families so vibrant, devoted, and active in their faith.  In 2015, most of the Catholic families left the place due to increasing difficulty in fishing.  To date, this Catholic Church holds regular masses for children and the few remaining families every other Sunday.  We still maintain a well-attended literacy program in Vietnamese and Khmer languages.
