A third village on the Tonle Sap Lake that we serve is Kompong Khleang, about 60 km southeast of Siem Reap town. The community is accessible by car during dry season and by boat during the rainy season when the lake rises and floods the surrounding areas. From 2002 to 2015, we had a flourishing Church composed mostly of Vietnamese Catholic fisher folk families. Masses were held on a floating church. In 2015, fishing in the Tonle Sap Lake became difficult, families left for better fishing opportunities and the floating church decommissioned. But with donors’ support, we have built a learning center for the Cambodian children, where two teachers hold classes for kindergarten, Grade 1 and Grade 2 classes. We also hold catechism and values formation program.
